For a vast majority of shareholdings,  Sole shareholding accounts are frozen and they can be either sold or transferred. Joint shareholding accounts are updated to the details of the living account holder.

This information is not mandatory, but does speed up the process for shareholding registrars if you have it to hand. We do need the deceased’s full name, their registered address on the account, and their date of birth.  However, with shareholding registrars like Link Asset Services, and with Computershare, we will need the name(s) of the company that the shares were held with.
